"GAR Gears Up for Trip to Azerbaijan "

August 14, 2006

There are many places in the world with animal overpopulation problems, but none as bad as what GAR has recently discovered in Azerbaijan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Azerbaijan).

Sick, scared, hungry and homeless, thousands of animals hopelessly roam the streets of Baku. The citizens of the country’s capital are not heartless, just uneducated. The spaying and neutering techniques currently in place border on barbaric. A long incision is made improperly from the neck all the way to the tail, which takes place in poor sanitary conditions resulting in post-operative complications, often leading to death – not to mention causing much pain and suffering to the animals.

GAR has appropriated several qualified vets, all specialized in western veterinary medicine to travel to Azerbaijan within the month. These vets will meet with and teach local vets of Baku and XXX safer, modernized methods of spaying and neutering, and arm them with the tools needed to increase the number of procedures per day.

Together with PAWS of Baku as well as the United Nations, it is our goal to correct this inordinate balance as quickly as possible, so that humans and animals may live together in harmony, and most importantly to alleviate the suffering of our beloved animal friends. Please help GAR make this emergency mission a success!
